Cavaliers will face Blue Hens for the first time ever Sept. 26 at Scott Stadium
Virginia’s run of primetime football matchups will continue Saturday when the Cavaliers welcome Delaware to Scott Stadium.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. and will air live on the ACC Network, the conference announced Monday.
This matchup will be the first-ever meeting between Virginia and Delaware, which made the jump to the FBS level in 2025 following a successful run in the NCAA FCS. The Blue Hens enter the week with a 1-1 record and are set to host Coastal Carolina this Saturday.
The Delaware contest will mark Virginia’s third consecutive evening kickoff. The Cavaliers opened the season with a 34-8 win over NC State in a game that started at 3:40 p.m., before cruising past Norfolk State 59-3 last Friday night in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Virginia will also face West Virginia this Saturday night in a neutral-site showdown at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. That game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start and will also be televised on the ACC Network.
Saturday’s matchup with Delaware will serve as Virginia’s annual UVA Strong Game, honoring former Cavaliers Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler, and D’Sean Perry. The three players lost their lives in an on-campus shooting on Nov. 13, 2022. Their memories continue to be honored through memorials at Scott Stadium and plaques along the Legends Walk.
To commemorate the occasion, Virginia athletics will hand out free UVA Strong T-shirts to the first 30,000 fans through the gates on Sept. 26.
The 25th-ranked Cavaliers enter the weekend with a 2-0 record and are listed as 9.5-point favorites against West Virginia in Charlotte.
Delaware finished its first FBS season in 2025 with a 7-6 record, capped by a 20-13 victory over Louisiana in the 68 Ventures Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. The Blue Hens opened the 2026 campaign with a dominant 42-7 win over Merrimack before dropping a 35-26 road decision to Vanderbilt last Saturday. Delaware led 17-14 at halftime in that contest.
The Blue Hens bring a dangerous passing attack into the season. Quarterback Nick Minicucci has completed 49.2% of his throws through two games, totaling 512 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Wide receiver Da’Wain Lofton has been a major big-play threat, averaging 29.4 yards per catch on seven receptions. Running back Kaderris Roberts has also contributed through the air, averaging 30.5 yards on four catches. Overall, five different Delaware players have recorded receptions of at least 30 yards through the opening two games.
