Star wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. of the Indianapolis Colts was hurt on Wednesday during team practice. This week is the Colts’ optional open practices.

This offseason, Michael Pittman Jr. inked a big contract

Pittman signed a three-year agreement for $70 million earlier this offseason, so he has little leverage against the Colts this month, while several of his receiver peers are skipping voluntary OTAs due to contract disputes.

The Indianapolis Colts had a scare on Wednesday

 

Pittman went to the ground following a collision during an 11-on-11 exercise, according to Mike Chappell. It took him a few moments to be able to stand up from his position. He stood up with a limp: “The paramedics arrived quickly and seemed to focus more attention on his left knee. Pittman was surrounded by a small group that included general manager Chris Ballard. Leading team receiver Shane Steichen trotted over to see how he was doing.

Pittman rose up and made his way toward the indoor practice area after a few nervous moments. There was just a small limp. A short while later, trainers led him inside.

Pittman is expected to be “fine” by the Colts

The Colts believe Pittman will be “fine” following the collision, according to Chappell: “He just bumped knees out there on a play,” Steichen said after practice. “He should be alright, but I don’t have a complete update.”

Steichen’s positive prognosis was later confirmed by a person with knowledge of the circumstances.

Pittman’s health is crucial for the Colts’ next campaign. Last season, with 109 receptions for 1,152 yards and four touchdowns, he was the team’s top receiver. Alongside Josh Downs, Alec Pierce, and rookie Adonai Mitchell, he will be leading the receiving corps.
