With OTAs started, the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott are still unable to come to an agreement on a contract extension. Remarkably, Prescott seems perfectly happy with that fact.
When discussing his contract situation on Wednesday, Prescott came across as laid back when it came to the likelihood that something will get done. The quarterback declared that he was not playing the game for financial gain and that his attention was solely on things that he could control.
Dak Prescott on his contract situation: “I know my business will take care of itself. Just controlling what I can control.”
Why has be been able to be so patient?

“I don’t play for money. … I’ll leave that to the business people to say what it’s worth, what they’re supposed to give a quarterback of my play,” Prescott said. “It’s about controlling what I can control. Handle that part and everything else will take care of itself.”
Prescott continues to say the correct things, but it’s amazing to see how casually he says them. Although he is approaching the end of his deal, he is entitled to $34 million this year. Furthermore, quarterbacks across the league are inking much larger contracts, so Prescott may be proactive and demand a significant raise.
Prescott will be subject to a cap hit of more than $55 million in 2024. Right now, he has a lot of power over the Cowboys, and it’s possible that his representatives are taking advantage of that.
