Allan McGregor hasn’t been in the public eye or heard much since leaving the Rangers last summer.
Despite not having a club for almost a year, the 42-year-old has yet to formally retire from the game.
In July of last year, as he said an emotional goodbye to the Rangers supporters, the former Scotland No. 1 and Rangers player was honored with a testimonial match at Ibrox versus Newcastle United.
Since then, he has been seen cheering for his boyhood team and, maybe more significantly, his former teammates from the stands at Ibrox.
Now, less than a year after departing from Ibrox, McGregor had secured a new position.
He is listed among the star-studded lineup for Premier Sports’ coverage of Rangers vs. Celtic in this weekend’s Scottish Cup final of 2024.
The renowned goalkeeper, who has four championship rings as a player, will be on the box with Michael Stewart, Allan Hutton, Scott Brown, and Neil Lennon.
Their program will be hosted by Emma Dodds, while Rory Hamilton will provide well-known commentary. They’ll have Connie McLaughlin and Jamie Lyall covering from the field.
In the meantime, details on the Rangers’ Walter Smith statue unveiling have surfaced.
The Ibrox legend’s statue will be unveiled this Saturday, May 25, the club has informed.
The event is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. outside the stadium before the Scottish Cup final 2024 between Celtic and Hampden.
The memorial to the legendary clubman Smith will be situated at the Copland Road end of Ibrox on Edmiston Drive.
“Rangers today confirms the unveiling of the much-anticipated Walter Smith Statue will take place on Saturday at 12noon,” a club statement said.
“Located on Edmiston Drive at the Copland Road end of Ibrox, supporters are invited to gather ahead of the Scottish Cup Final as the Smith family and guests display the permanent memorial to one of the true greats of the club for the first time.”
