The Baltimore Orioles have overtaken the New York Yankees for the top spot in the American League East. Despite a recent rough period, the Yankees, led by manager Aaron Boone, still have a strong record of 53-32 and are well positioned to make a return to the postseason. There’s speculation that general manager Brian Cashman might pursue Miami Marlins reliever Tanner Scott to bolster the bullpen before the July 30 trade deadline.
Chris Kirschner and Brendan Kuty from The Athletic devised six potential trade scenarios to address areas of concern in the Yankees’ current lineup. They also sought feedback from former general manager Jim Bowden on each proposal. One of the proposed deals involves acquiring Tanner Scott and bringing him to the Bronx.
- Yankees receive: left-handed pitcher Tanner Scott
- Marlins receive: shortstop Oswald Peraza and utility player Oswaldo Cabrera
“The Marlins would be wise to accept this proposal as I believe they are unlikely to receive a better offer elsewhere. Peraza would step into the role of starting shortstop for the Marlins, with Cabrera serving as their versatile utility player,” Bowden commented. “Both players are currently overshadowed by stronger counterparts on the Yankees, making them dispensable. Despite not fully demonstrating his potential in the Bronx, Peraza still holds considerable promise.”
