Yankees Predicted to Juan Soto, Sign Projected $119 Million 2-Time All-Star

The New York Yankees recently lost the 2024 World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers. As they recover from this setback, their attention will shift to next season and what improvements are necessary to return to the Fall Classic. One potential solution is Alex Bregman, a veteran third baseman from the Houston Astros, who may help the Yankees overcome their challenges.

Re-signing Juan Soto, an outfielder, will be the Yankees’ top priority. However, Erik Beaston from Bleacher Report speculates that Soto might instead sign with the New York Mets this offseason.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post mentioned Bregman and outfielder Anthony Santander as alternative targets for the Yankees if they fail to secure Soto. Beaston noted that with Soto likely heading to the Mets, Bregman appears to be a strong candidate for the Yankees, as they seek to bolster a position that needs upgrading.

As reported by Spotrac, Bregman’s market value is estimated at four years and 119million∗∗, though his agent Scott Boras  210 million contract.

Bregman’s Fit for the Yankees Jazz Chisholm Jr. filled in at third base after being traded, but he initially played second base with the Miami Marlins. Gleyber Torres, currently at second base, is heading into free agency, which could leave Chisholm in that role and open up third base—where the Yankees need an upgrade. In 2024, their combined third base performance yielded 3.4 WAR, ranking eighth in the league, largely thanks to Chisholm’s 2.1 WAR in just 45 games.

Bregman would provide much-needed stability, having posted a slash line of .260/.349/.449 from 2022-24 with a yearly average of 25 home runs, 32 doubles, 89 RBI, and 92 runs scored.

Will the Yankees Pursue Bregman? Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report argued against Bregman joining the Yankees, citing tensions from the Astros sign-stealing scandal as a potential barrier. However, he acknowledged the Yankees’ clear need for a third baseman and the fanbase’s possible reception of Bregman.

The Yankees’ offseason hinges on Soto’s decision. If he remains, talk of Bregman may quiet down, but speculation could rise if Soto chooses another team.
