Huge Boost as Texas Tech Basketball Gets Golden Opportunity to Land a 5-Star Recruit with a Versatile Skill Set

Texas Tech Basketball Hosts 5-Star Recruit

Shelton Henderson, a top-25 recruit in the class of 2025, is currently visiting Lubbock for an official meeting with the Texas Tech basketball program.

With the season set to start in about two months, the Red Raiders have an exciting weekend ahead. Head coach Grant McCasland and his team are welcoming one of the nation’s top high school talents. Henderson, a five-star forward from Bellaire, Texas, is on campus to explore what Texas Tech and Lubbock have to offer.

This visit represents a significant opportunity for the Red Raiders, as Henderson is ranked No. 22 overall and No. 4 among small forwards in the nation by 247Sports.com’s composite rankings.

Standing at 6 feet 6 inches and weighing 220 pounds, Henderson is one of the most sought-after prospects in the country. Along with Texas Tech, he has received offers from prestigious programs such as Duke, Texas, Louisville, Houston, LSU, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, TCU, and Texas A&M.

In August, Henderson toured Louisville, and later this month, he plans to visit both Duke and Texas (per 247Sports.com). This indicates that Texas Tech faces tough competition in this recruiting race.

In early August, Henderson announced his top six schools, which included Texas Tech, Louisville, LSU, Houston, Texas, and Duke. His presence on campus this weekend aligns with those expectations.

Texas Tech will certainly make every effort to secure this remarkable talent, especially since they currently have no commitments for the 2025 class.

If Henderson chooses to join the Red Raiders, he would set a record as the highest-ranked recruit in the program’s history, surpassing Jahmi’us Ramsey, who was ranked No. 32 overall and was a 4-star recruit in 2019.

With four guards/forwards on the current roster set to graduate this season, strengthening the wing position will be a key focus next offseason. While the transfer portal will play a crucial role, landing Henderson would significantly enhance the future of the program.
