Wisconsin football legend Send Strong Words To the Badgers And Coach Luke Fickell During A Brief Interview

Melvin Gordon shared his thoughts on the Badgers’ upcoming 2025 season during a local radio interview

“Everyone starts at 0-0,” Gordon said on ESPN Madison. “I know those guys are grinding. People keep talking about the coaching, the players, the schedule — I’m over hearing about the schedule. Who cares? You still have to play the games. Upsets happen all the time. If people think you’re the underdog, prove them wrong. Go make a name for yourselves. That’s the best way to earn respect. I’m standing with the Badgers. Win or lose, we’re in it together.”

Gordon’s comments were directed at critics focused on Wisconsin’s tough 2025 slate, including ProFootballFocus — which ranked it the most difficult in the country — and Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt, who questioned if the Badgers could win even three games.

Interestingly, Gordon’s mindset mirrors that of starting quarterback Billy Edwards Jr., who sees the rigorous schedule as a chance to shine, with marquee matchups nearly every week.

Wisconsin kicks off its 2025 season at home against the Miami (OH) RedHawks before the real challenge begins following a Week 2 clash with Middle Tennessee State. From there, the Badgers face a brutal stretch: road games at Alabama (ranked No. 3 in ESPN’s FPI) and Michigan (No. 17), home matchups with Iowa (No. 39) and Ohio State (No. 4), a trip to Oregon (No. 6), another home game against Washington (No. 27), followed by road contests at Indiana (No. 31) and Minnesota (No. 43), with a home finale against Illinois (No. 44).

Most preseason outlooks see six wins as a realistic target, considering the program’s offseason changes to its roster and coaching staff. A leap to eight or nine victories, however, seems ambitious due to the strength of the schedule and recent performance trends.

Still, Melvin Gordon has made it clear he’s had enough of the schedule talk. And if Wisconsin manages to defy expectations, he’ll be among the first to celebrate.
