Wigan Athletic centre-back Sensation has quickly emerged as one of the brightest prospects in the Football League.

Other top-tier clubs, not just West Ham and Brentford, are likely to take an interest in Wigan Athletic’s standout players during the upcoming transfer window.

In the face of financial difficulties, Wigan Athletic has had to rely on their academy players in recent years. Despite the challenges, some of these young talents have seized the opportunity to shine in the first team, with defender Hughes being the most prominent among them.

At the age of 20, Hughes has emerged as a key player for Wigan Athletic, demonstrating his importance through his captaincy and appearance record of 49 games this season, bringing his overall club total to 73. Additionally, he made his debut for the England U20s in November.

Wigan Athletic’s young defender, Charlie Hughes, has been attracting attention from top clubs, including West Ham and Brentford, due to his impressive performances in League One. Hughes has been a standout player for Wigan, captaining the team on several occasions and earning a call-up to the England U20s. His development has been aided by his loan spell at St Johnstone, where he has gained valuable experience. Wigan is expected to undergo a period of transition in the coming months, with both incoming and outgoing players anticipated.

However, the club has stability with manager Shaun Maloney, who is eager to build and strengthen the squad. Hughes is a product of Wigan’s commitment to youth development, with 40% of the team consisting of academy graduates who have played a combined 13,000 minutes in League One. Hughes has expressed his desire to let his football do the talking and is focused on improving every day. He is committed to Wigan but is aware of the speculation surrounding his future. Despite the interest from West Ham and Brentford, further high-level interest in Hughes is expected this summer.
