The Chicago White Sox have finalized a one-year, $ 5 million deal with veteran left-handed pitcher Martín Pérez, which includes a mutual option for the 2026 season.
To create space on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated right-handed pitcher Ron Marinaccio for assignment.
Pérez’s contract stipulates that he will earn 3.5millionin2025,alongwithamutualoptionworth 10 million for the 2025 season, or a $ 1.5 million buyout.
The 33-year-old Pérez had a combined record of 5-6, pitching to a 4.53 ERA (68 earned runs over 135.0 innings) and recording 107 strikeouts over 26 games in 2024, split between Pittsburgh and San Diego. He began the season with the Pirates and was traded to the Padres on July 30 for left-hander Ronaldys Jiménez. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 200 pounds, Pérez finished strong with a 3-1 record and a 3.46 ERA (20 earned runs over 52.0 innings), along with 44 strikeouts in 10 starts with San Diego.
Originally from Guanare, Venezuela, Pérez has a career record of 90-87 with a 4.44 ERA (778 earned runs over 1,575.2 innings) and 1,109 strikeouts across 314 games (269 starts) in 13 major league seasons, playing for Texas (2012-18, ‘22-23), Minnesota (2019), Boston (2020-21), Pittsburgh (2024), and San Diego (2024).
He was an American League All-Star in 2022 and was part of the World Series-winning Texas team in 2023. Among active left-handed pitchers, he ranks sixth in starts, seventh in innings pitched, and is tied for seventh in wins.
Marinaccio, 29, joined the White Sox after being claimed off waivers from the Yankees on September 23, 2024. He made 16 relief appearances with New York last season, finishing with a record of 1-0 and a 3.86 ERA (10 earned runs over 23.1 innings), along with 25 strikeouts.
The White Sox’s 40-man roster remains full at 40 players.
