Reagan High School (N.C.) junior quarterback Jacob Smith, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound three-star prospect, has been committed to NC State football since August. Notably, Smith was the first player in the 2026 class to pledge to the Wolfpack.
At the time of Smith’s commitment, NC State quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper was already a key figure in his recruitment. Now, with Roper taking on additional responsibilities as the Wolfpack’s offensive coordinator and early signing day for the 2026 class still nearly a year away, the veteran coach made a point to visit Smith at his home on Tuesday night.

After missing most of his junior season due to a torn ACL, Jacob Smith is currently ranked No. 714 overall, No. 66 among quarterbacks, and No. 26 in North Carolina in the 247Sports 2026 Composite rankings.

Trinity Episcopal School (Va.) three-star offensive tackle Brady Sakowitz, ranked No. 688 overall, No. 52 at his position, and No. 14 among Virginia prospects in the 2026 class, is the only other early commitment to NC State football so far. The 6-foot-6, 295-pound standout announced his pledge to Dave Doeren and his staff in October.
