WATCH: Matthew Tkachuk Sheds Light On Chat That Led To David Pastrnak Fight

Matthew Tkachuk and David Pastrnak, both former Hart Trophy nominees, engaged in a brief but intense fight during the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs between the Panthers and Bruins. The incident occurred in Game 2, which Florida won 6-1, and marked a rare moment of physical confrontation between the two players. After the game, Pastrnak revealed that Tkachuk had initiated the fight, and Tkachuk later explained the context behind their decision to drop the gloves.

According to Tkachuk, the Panthers were frustrated with the Bruins’ bottom-six players and felt they were not being effectively checked. Tkachuk claimed that he asked Pastrnak to fight, but Pastrnak initially declined, suggesting they do it in the next game. Tkachuk, however, insisted that they settle the matter immediately, and Pastrnak agreed to fight on his next shift.

Matthew Tkachuk, known for his physical and agitating style of play, has a reputation for being more willing to engage in fights compared to some other skilled offensive players. In the recent playoff matchup between the Panthers and Bruins, Tkachuk and David Pastrnak, both former Hart Trophy candidates, dropped the gloves in a brief but intense fight.

Despite Tkachuk’s reputation, Pastrnak stepped up and answered the challenge, impressing Tkachuk in the process. Tkachuk acknowledged the respect he has for Pastrnak, noting that they are both players more known for their offensive abilities rather than fighting. Tkachuk described the fight as an emotional moment between two leaders of their respective teams, who were willing to do whatever it takes to win.

Tkachuk’s physical style of play did not sit well with Bruins coach Jim Montgomery, who felt Tkachuk crossed the line with some late right-hand punches after Pastrnak was already on the ice. As the series shifts to Boston for Game 3, it is expected that Tkachuk will not receive a warm reception from the Bruins fans.
