Ryan Day made a mistake by letting Kyle McCord go and picking up Will Howard

Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes are currently ranked No. 3 in the nation, but some observers believe they don’t yet resemble a top team. In Week 1, they had a lackluster performance against the Akron Zips, although they easily beat Western Michigan afterward. Neither victory was particularly exciting or noteworthy. As they gear up for Week 4, the Buckeyes will face the Marshall Thundering Herd, which is expected to be their first significant challenge of the season. One area of concern for Ohio State is transfer quarterback Will Howard. While he performed well at Kansas State, where he faced mainly Big 12 teams with only Texas and Oklahoma State as noteworthy opponents, his performance in the Big Ten has been underwhelming.

So far, Howard has completed 35 passes for 520 yards over two games, with a total of five touchdowns—four passing and one rushing. In contrast, former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord is leading the nation in touchdown passes, averaging four per game. With 59 completions and 735 yards along with eight passing touchdowns, McCord is impressing everyone while leading the Syracuse Orange offense. Additionally, he boasts an impressive 11-1 record as a starter, raising questions about why Ohio State head coach Ryan Day wouldn’t want to retain him in Columbus.

In Week 4, McCord had a standout moment with a 67-yard touchdown pass in a Friday-night game against new ACC opponent Stanford. Meanwhile, Howard and the Buckeyes are set to kick off against the Thundering Herd at noon ET on FOX this Saturday.
