Gonzaga refutes reported deal to join Pac-12 as conference looks to add members

Gonzaga denied a report on Monday claiming it was leaving the West Coast Conference (WCC) for the Pac-12. The school’s Athletic Director, Chris Standiford, stated the report from Brett McMurphy of the Action Network about reaching an agreement with the Pac-12 and receiving a full revenue share was “not accurate.”

While no deal is in place yet, discussions are still happening. Nicole Auerbach from NBC Sports also commented, stating that while conversations are ongoing, no decision has been made regarding Gonzaga’s potential move.

McMurphy remains confident, asserting during an interview that sources pointed to Gonzaga eventually joining the Pac-12, although he acknowledged it hasn’t happened yet.

The Pac-12 is actively seeking new members, particularly after losing 10 members to other conferences. Recently, it announced four new additions for 2026-27: Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado State, and Fresno State, which will join the remaining Oregon State and Washington State.

Pac-12 Commissioner Teresa Gould expressed that the conference is not finished expanding and aims to explore growth opportunities that benefit its member institutions and student-athletes. Gonzaga has been part of the WCC since the 1979-80 season.
