Seth Trimble missed his third straight game with an upper-body injury during the UNC basketball program’s much needed win at Notre Dame. However, North Carolina’s margin for error the rest of the way this season is razor thin, and the Tar Heels need Trimble back to be at their best.
Michael Koh — sports writer and reporter for WCHL & Chapelboro — announced Head Coach Hubert Davis’ update on Trimble.
#UNC head coach Hubert Davis says Seth Trimble has practiced and done a full-contact drill. Says he hasn't spoken to him yet today, but will know more after the team's practice later.

This update bodes well for Trimble lacing up the Jordan’s and hitting the hardwood soon. Getting a practice and full-contact drill under his belt is a big step in the right direction for Trimble. An exact timeline for Trimble’s return was not disclosed, but it appears there could be an update after today’s practice.
The Tar Heels have an important game tomorrow night, hosting ACC newcomer SMU. SMU is off to an impressive 11-3 start on the season, and the Mustangs are 2-1 in ACC play. This is a have-to-have-it game for the 9-6 Tar Heels who need to beef up their resume. Hopefully, the Tar Heels get some good news and have Trimble back in action tomorrow. His lock-down defense and elite athleticism are irreplaceable for UNC.
During his junior season, Trimble is averaging 14.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game, after averaging just 5.2 points per game last season. He’s drastically improved his shooting and offensive efficiency, while continuing to provide his signature smothering defense.
Elliot Cadeau’s late-game heroics at Notre Dame with his and-1 three-pointer has temporarily saved UNC’s March Madness hopes. But the Tar Heels aren’t out of the weeds yet, and they face a critical seven-game ACC stretch before playing Duke on February 1. North Carolina needs Timble for as many of those games as possible. The breakout star has been one of the most unexpected, pleasant surprises for the Tar Heels.
