LSU’s making a big move for a top TE
Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers are not giving up on any recruiting target they’re interested in pursuing. It doesn’t matter if they join the battle late, or a player is already committed elsewhere, LSU has been pushing hard and winning often here recently landing over a half dozen top recruits since the start of July.
Now, they’re going after yet another highly coveted elite talent at tight end who they weren’t in the mix for until after his recent decommitment from Texas A&M. And once again, it looks like LSU could pull this victory off as the recruiting wins keep stacking up ahead of college football season.
George Lamons continues to lean toward LSU Tigers and one other school
George Lamons is a monstrous 6’4″, 215-pound tight end recruit (essentially a jumbo WR) in the 2027 class who continues to rise up the recruiting rankings boards. Lamons racked up over 1300 yards and 20 touchdowns last fall as he manhandled the competition in only his sophomore season, winning with excellent ball skills, route running fluidity, and surprising long speed for a player of his size.
Lamons was committed to Texas A&M as of this past April, but quickly changed his mind near the end of July. Since he announced his decommitment several blue blood programs have been chasing him, but LSU looks like they’re firmly in the lead (alongside maybe one other school).

Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Penn State, and more have all been chasing after him, but according to multiple sources Lamons has been pursued “daily” by LSU. Georgia Tech has apparently been contacting him consistently as well–a close second–but the Tigers look like they’re in prime position to land Lamons.
Why? Obvious opportunity, legacy of success, and then of course his upcoming game visits.
The Tigers just sent Mason Taylor off to be drafted in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft this past spring. Trey’Dez Green has already impressed and should star this season. Lamons could see himself as the next in line to take over that do-it-all role that LSU’s offense requires.
Lamons is set to see LSU play in back to back weeks this fall. He’ll be on-site as the Tigers take on Clemson. Then he’ll be in Baton Rouge the following weekend for LSU’s first home game of the year too.
Given all the public interest in LSU, his visit over the summer, his back to back game visits, and Brian Kelly’s all-in approach to recruiting him, Lamons looks like he might just be the future at tight end for the Tigers
