On the first day of on-ice training camp, the Boston Bruins announced that they have signed goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo to a Professional Tryout Agreement. Kaskisuo joined the Laval Rocket late last season, where he compiled a 7-4 record, a .909 save percentage, and a 2.90 goals-against average over 13 games. The 30-year-old has played two games in the NHL and 108 games in the AHL, boasting a career record of 53-36-13 with a 2.68 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage across his time with the Toronto Marlies, Chicago Wolves, and Laval Rocket.
Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 208 pounds, Kaskisuo played for Leksand IF in the Swedish Hockey League from 2021 to 2023. He originally signed with the Nashville Predators after two years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he achieved a 1.92 goals-against average during his second season. He was also named to the AHL All-Star team in the 2019-20 season.
With Bruins All-Star goaltender Jeremy Swayman still unsigned for the time being, Kaskisuo adds valuable professional experience and could serve as a backup to Joonas Korpisalo in the NHL or play in the AHL if Brandon Bussi or Michael DiPietro step in for Swayman. Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney mentioned to the media on Wednesday that the team aims to finalize Swayman’s contract before the December 1 deadline.
