“And I know some people aren’t going to want to think about this. What if you lose this week?” But they didn’t. 4 years with the Irish and Marcus Freeman, is already sitting right on top of the natty. After that Georgia win? Who’s gonna stop these guys? Penn State?? Notre Dame now controls their destiny, and the Bulldogs game proved it. SEC talent barely had any breathing room in the gridiron. Only 62 rushing yards? Coming from one of the best offenses in the country!! Yeah, we’re gonna cut some slack and say maybe if Carson Beck was there, things would’ve been different, but Marcus Freeman has proved it: The Fighting Irish are gonna claw and scratch to the top under Freeman’s coaching, and nothing can stop that.
Except maybe the NFL!! NFL Black Monday was harsh this year. The Jaguars got rid of Doug Pederson, and the Patriots went on to part ways with Jerod Mayo. Now, this scene creates a tense environment for the college football scene. Some HCs are fresh for the plucking, and a million-dollar contract on the table can flip anyone to the league!! But Freeman is a free man with the NFL having nothing on him. “About a week or two ago, they announced another long contract here at Notre Dame. So I don’t think we have anything to worry about,” Freeman pointed out.
Well, Irish fans, you have nothing to worry about. We had already covered the reveal back on December 18th. Notre Dame dropped the announcement that they are pushing forward a 4-year deal with Freeman. And honestly, why won’t they?
In just 4 years, the team is sitting at the cusp of the national championship trophy. The Jaguars and Patriots aren’t the only threat, and the Chicago Bears have issued interview requests to multiple coaches like Thomas Brown, Drew Petzing, and more. In the South, the Saints are slowly gearing up to get a replacement for Darren Rizzi.
Stopping a Kirby Smart-led Georgia to just 10 points on the board does draw a lot of eyes on you. The only other team capable of pulling the same feat this season was Ole Miss. We are not exactly surprised that Freeman is sitting on the hot seat, but we do believe that something that will make the conversation even spicer is a win over Penn State.
Nittany Lions on the horizon
The choking problem. Not a biological hazard. Just something James Franklin had been dealing with for a while. Every time you throw the Lions against an AP top contender? They choke, and they lose. Not only anymore…
A wounded lion is more dangerous…And James Franklin proved it at the Fiesta Bowl. Ashton Jeanty, what? Boise State was barely allowed to have possession of the football in the first half. Only 108 rushing yards by a team that was averaging at least 250 across the board.
