On Tuesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs added some depth and toughness to their roster by trading for forward Kyle Clifford from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for future considerations.
Clifford had cleared waivers earlier that day and will be assigned to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
The 30-year-old has spent the last two seasons with the Blues, tallying four goals and four assists in 52 games.
Clifford is familiar with the Maple Leafs, having played for them during the 2019-20 season after being traded mid-season from the Los Angeles Kings, a deal that also brought goaltender Jack Campbell to Toronto.
In his first stint with the Leafs, Clifford recorded one goal and two assists over 16 games, along with 23 penalty minutes.
Renowned for his physical play, Clifford has accumulated 65 goals, 75 assists, and 872 penalty minutes across 728 NHL games and has won the Stanley Cup twice with the Kings in 2012 and 2014. He is expected to provide Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe with additional options on the fourth line.
