It was a complete team effort, and while much of the focus was on quarterback Will Howard for his remarkable throws and consistent playmaking, true freshman Jeremiah Smith made his mark as the primary beneficiary of those passes. In his first-ever playoff game, Smith showcased his talent on the national stage.
On Saturday night, Smith became the first freshman in program history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards. He also joined an exclusive club as just the 10th player in program history to achieve that feat.
After the win, Ohio State recognized two players for their outstanding performances and announced that Smith was named Co-Offensive Player of the Game alongside his partner in crime, Will Howard.
Jeremiah Smith finished the game with six receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns, proving to be a force all night long against the Tennessee Volunteers’ secondary, which simply couldn’t contain him.
His dominance was made even more challenging by Ohio State’s dynamic rushing attack and the presence of other standout receivers like Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate, who also demand significant attention from opposing defenses.
Now, Smith and the Buckeyes will head to Pasadena for a rematch with the No. 1 Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl Game, where a trip to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff will be on the line.
