USF Bull Yet Again Receive Another Significant News With Great Excitement
The University of South Florida men’s basketball team has appointed its new head coach, bringing aboard former Arkansas State head coach Bryan Hodgson.

Hodgson becomes the 12th head coach in the 54-year history of the program.
He previously guided Arkansas State to an impressive 25-11 season and secured a Sun Belt Conference title last year.
Although Hodgson had signed a contract extension with the Red Wolves in January that ran through 2031 and was considered for the head coaching role at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USF stepped in by paying a $ 900,000 buyout.
“I received multiple job offers… but none could compare to [USF],” said Hodgson during his introductory press conference on March 28. “From my first talk with [vice president of athletics] Michael Kelly and [senior associate athletics director] Lee Butler, I felt this place was truly special.”
Kelly expressed high regard for Hodgson, stating, “Bryan has been involved in successful programs at every level, showcasing an exceptional talent for recruiting top players, developing talent, and constructing championship-caliber teams. His enthusiasm, drive, and vision for USF basketball perfectly align with our dedication to excellence. We are confident he is the right leader to elevate this program, and we eagerly anticipate his influence on our student-athletes and the Tampa Bay community.”
While serving as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama from 2019 to 2023, Hodgson was recognized by 247Sports.com as the second-best recruiter in the nation. He successfully brought in top talent to Tuscaloosa, including forward Brandon Miller, who was selected second overall in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets.
Hodgson has also coached eleven other current or former NBA players, such as forward Noah Clowney and guards Joshua Primo and Kira Lewis Jr., all of whom were first-round draft picks.
He is set to bring a wealth of talent to Tampa Bay. For instance, four-star recruit Tristian Beckford from the 2025 class has decided to follow Hodgson, switching his commitment from Arkansas State to USF on March 26. The Ontario native would have been the highest-rated recruit in Arkansas State history.

Additionally, two players from Arkansas State, guard Joesph Pinion and forward Izaiyah Nelson, have announced their transfer to USF on March 25.
Hodgson takes over from interim head coach Ben Fletcher, who compiled a record of 13-19 after the unexpected passing of former head coach Amir Abdur-Rahim on October 24.
Several players from the previous coaching staff, including leading scorer guard Jayden Reid, along with guards Kobe Knox, Kasen Jennings, Kameren Wright, Jimmie Williams, and Nic Smith, have opted to enter the transfer portal.
