USC Trojans Yet Again Confirmed A Huge Commitment Of A Talented Quarterback

The USC Trojans are becoming known for successfully flipping top-tier recruits.

They have secured a commitment from quarterback Jonas Williams, who is part of the class of 2026 and was previously committed to the Oregon Ducks. USC is now focusing on bringing in offensive playmakers to support Williams, with four-star wide receiver Vance Spafford on their radar.

Spafford, also from the class of 2026, is currently committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. He ranks as the No. 57 recruit in the country, the No. 9 wide receiver, and the No. 9 player from California. USC has placed a strong emphasis on recruiting in-state talent and is now aiming to convince Spafford to change his commitment.

Even though Spafford is currently committed to the Georgia Bulldogs, he has scheduled visits with several schools, and Adam Gorney from Rivals views USC as a potential contender.

“He’s visiting UCLA, Missouri, Ole Miss, and returning to USC, which is putting pressure on him to reconsider,” Gorney noted. “While Spafford prefers some time to sort things out, the Trojans are definitely a team to keep an eye on as the season progresses.”

USC is making a strong effort to attract Spafford, having extended an offer to the four-star wide receiver on January 13. Other programs, including the Alabama Crimson Tide, have also been trying to sway him.

Spafford committed to Georgia before his junior year of high school. Despite being content with his choice, he remains open to other recruiting opportunities.

The Georgia Bulldogs have garnered only five commitments for the class of 2026, and 247Sports ranks their recruiting class as the No. 17 in the nation. Spafford is currently the only wide receiver committed, but he may be reconsidering his decision.

“The highly regarded four-star receiver from Mission Viejo, Calif., is content with his commitment to Georgia, but Spafford has only one chance to experience the recruiting process, so he has several visits lined up,” Gorney commented.

Spafford took an unofficial visit to USC on February 1 for the Junior Day event and is planning another visit with the Trojans, which has sparked more interest from him toward USC.

During his junior season, Spafford posted impressive stats with 57 catches for 1,017 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is known for his speed as a slot receiver and has the potential to be a playmaker for any team he joins.

What keeps Spafford drawn to Georgia is the coaching staff. After attending Georgia’s pro day, he shared his thoughts with On3.

“I really enjoyed spending time with the coaches,” Spafford said. “Talking to Coach Smart was fantastic, and I had great conversations with receivers coach James Coley. I feel like our relationship really grew, and that was incredible.”

Bringing Spafford to campus to meet USC Trojans coach Lincoln Riley and the rest of the coaching staff will be essential. As an in-state recruit, Spafford’s recruitment will be more favorable for USC, and the Trojans should leverage their geographic advantage.

The USC Trojans have been successful with their recruiting efforts for the class of 2026, currently holding the No. 1 spot in the rankings according to 247Sports. They have received 11 commitments, with 64% of those coming from in-state players.

Alongside Williams, USC has also secured a commitment from four-star running back Shahn Alston. With a pressing need at the wide receiver position, Spafford would be a significant addition to the team.
