USC Trojans Express Great Joy After Ta’Mere Robinson Made Honest Admission
Robinson is ranked as the No. 232 prospect in the 247Sports transfer portal recruiting rankings and is the No. 7 linebacker. As a high school player, he was a four-star recruit from Pittsburgh (Pa.) Bashear, holding the No. 279 spot nationally and ranking as the No. 29 edge rusher.
Former Penn State linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson announced his commitment to USC on Tuesday, becoming the Trojans’ second transfer portal addition of the spring. After visiting the campus over the weekend, Robinson made his decision swiftly.
At 6-foot-3 and 223 pounds, Robinson adds much-needed depth to USC’s linebacker corps. Although he participated in only 107 defensive snaps during his two years at Penn State, he was performing well in spring camp in Happy Valley just before entering the portal.
“He’s showing great performance right now, but we need that to continue throughout the summer and into the season,” said Penn State head coach James Franklin earlier this month.
Robinson missed a considerable amount of his upperclassman year in high school because of a knee injury. He faced another setback early in last season with an injury but eventually returned to primarily contribute on special teams coverage. Robinson is transferring to USC in hopes of getting more playing time.
After entering the transfer portal on April 16th, Robinson visited only USC. Originally from Pittsburgh, he received 28 offers coming out of high school, including some from top programs such as Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Texas.
We anticipate that Robinson will secure a position on USC’s two-deep roster as the WILL linebacker, backing up Eric Gentry during fall camp. Last season, Robinson was the backup WILL at Penn State and the third-string MIKE. Since Desman Stephens and Jadyn Walker are mainly concentrating on the MIKE spot this spring, there’s an obvious opportunity for Robinson at WILL. His presence should also allow Gentry to focus more on rushing the quarterback, which is an additional advantage.
Although Robinson has limited college production, with just 13 tackles and 0.5 sacks over two seasons, he showed significant improvement this spring at Penn State and is poised to be an important player for the Trojans. His arrival is not merely for depth; he is expected to be a key contributor as the team’s No. 3 linebacker, ahead of Walker, Anthony Beavers, and Garrison Madden.
