USA Today provides a favorable update for Shilo Sanders’ legal battle in bankruptcy case

Shilo Sanders received a positive update regarding his bankruptcy case this past week. A federal judge found insufficient evidence suggesting that the Colorado safety should be responsible for over  $11 million in settlement payments to John Darjean, a security officer whom Shilo assaulted in 2015 at Focus Academy in the Dallas area.

According to USA Today’s Brent Schrotenboer, Sanders might still face scrutiny concerning his mental state during the assault on Darjean.

“A federal bankruptcy judge heard arguments Thursday and expressed doubts about whether there was enough evidence to rule against Sanders, potentially allowing him to discharge more than $ 11 million in debt,” Schrotenboer reported.

Judge Michael Romero did not make any rulings after the hearing but suggested that if he denies the request for a summary judgment, the case could go to trial to assess Sanders’ mental condition during the incident, which occurred when he was just 15 years old.

Shilo’s attorney, Victor Vital, outlined the direction of the case: “What was going through this 15-year-old’s mind at the time is what I think this case is about.”

If the bankruptcy focus shifts, it appears that subpoenas for Shedeur or Deion Sanders are unlikely.

Overall, Shilo’s NFL career may have avoided a significant obstacle with the current trajectory of his legal challenges.
