With three national championships under his belt at two different schools, former Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer has considerable experience in college football. Therefore, when Meyer identifies the toughest place he’s ever coached, his opinion carries weight. On Friday, he stated that Penn State’s Beaver Stadium is the most challenging venue he has faced, especially during a white-out environment on a Saturday night. “I have them as the number one most difficult place to play in college football,” Meyer said on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff.
While Meyer considers Beaver Stadium tough, he had considerable success against Penn State during his time at Ohio State, with a record of 6-1 against the Nittany Lions, including three victories in State College, Pennsylvania. Notably, his only loss to Penn State occurred there in 2016.

Some might be surprised by Meyer’s choice, given his annual battles against Michigan in the Big House while at Ohio State, where he boasted an undefeated 7-0 record. Meyer likely refrained from giving “That Team Up North” credit for a tough environment.
It’s a widely held opinion that Beaver Stadium ranks among the toughest venues in the nation, with a capacity of 106,572 fans. On the rare occasions designated for a “white-out,” it becomes an exceptional location in college football.
In 2024, the specific dates for future white-out games are still unclear. The Nittany Lions will host the UCLA Bruins at noon and then face USC next week, also at noon. Later in the season, Penn State will host Ohio State and Washington consecutively, and if either of those games is scheduled at night, it’s likely to feature a white-out atmosphere.
