UPDATE: Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube share more devastating injury news regarding a talented star

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube shared an update on Calle Jarnkrok’s condition, but the news wasn’t very positive.

Jarnkrok, a forward for the Maple Leafs, has yet to play this season, and it seems likely that will continue for the foreseeable future. During a press conference on Tuesday, Berube provided an update that fans were hoping would be more encouraging after Jarnkrok’s extended absence. While Jarnkrok has been skating, Berube indicated that he is still some distance away from making a return and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

“Timeline-wise, that’s challenging. He’s still a ways off, but he is making progress, skating a little, which is a positive sign. We’ll see how things develop over the next two weeks, and then we should have a clearer timeline,” Berube said. It took some time for Toronto to disclose the specific injury Jarnkrok is dealing with, but it was revealed in November that he has been struggling with groin issues and a sports hernia. Jarnkrok’s potential return could significantly affect the Maple Leafs’ plans leading up to the trade deadline.

The team is looking to enhance their center depth, and two veteran players have recently been linked to Toronto by a reputable NHL insider. While Jarnkrok is capable of playing both center and wing, the Leafs have leaned towards using him on the wing so far. Last season, Jarnkrok scored 10 goals and registered 21 points for the Maple Leafs. He hasn’t played since the team was eliminated by the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
