Phoenix Suns coach Mike Budenholzer has utilized 13 different players and has employed 69 different lineups over the first four games, yet Bol Bol has not seen any action this season.
“We have great depth, and sometimes that means some players don’t get playing time,” Budenholzer explained. “He’s done well in practice, and we’re excited about him. He will get chances to make an impact in games and contribute both offensively and defensively. It’s just a challenging aspect of the NBA, especially when you have so many talented players and depth.” In his second season with the Suns, Bol has become a fan favorite and has shown he can be effective when he gets the chance to play.
The 7-footer with guard-like abilities averaged 5.2 points last season, achieving a career-high shooting percentage of 61.6% from the field and making 22 of 52 attempts from beyond the arc. However, he has not had any playing time.
The Suns (3-1) entered Thursday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers (2-2) at the new $2 billion Intuit Dome on a two-game winning streak. “I believe we have performed quite well considering the new coaching changes,” Bol stated. “Overall, I think we’re doing well, but we need to focus on eliminating turnovers. That’s been our primary issue. Other than that, we’ve played effectively.” In their first two games, the Suns committed a total of 39 turnovers, with 22 of those occurring in the opener against the Clippers. Since then, they have had just 22 turnovers combined in their last two games.
