Update: Mountaineers Announce Women’s Basketball 2024-25 Promotional Schedule

On Wednesday, the App State women’s basketball team revealed its promotional schedule for the upcoming 14 home games.

The Mountaineers will kick off a new chapter under head coach Alaura Sharp and her coaching staff on November 4 at Miami (OH), marking the first game of this season’s MAC-SBC Challenge, before returning to Boone for their home opener against Columbia College on November 6.

Sharp was appointed as the ninth head coach in the history of App State women’s basketball by Director of Athletics Doug Gillin on April 5, 2024. Last season, Sharp led Presbyterian to both its first NCAA Tournament appearance and its inaugural NCAA Tournament win. She spent six seasons with the Blue Hose and has previous experience as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss.

This season, seniors Emily Carver, Samantha LaFon, Zada Porter, and J’Mani Ingram will return to play in the Black and Gold. Carver, a Preseason First Team All-SBC selection for 2024-25, averaged 13.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game last season, ranking fourth in the league and among the NCAA’s top 70 for three-pointers made per game (2.29). Junior Rylan Moffitt also returns, having led the team in rebounds (8 per game) and blocked shots (32) during the 2023-24 season. The Mountaineers will also welcome nine newcomers, highlighted by junior Emily Hege, who scored 982 points over two seasons at Wingate for an average of 15.8 points per game.

The team features international players from Spain, Iceland, Croatia, and Australia, including senior Mara Neira, freshman Hekla Nökkvadóttir, junior Elena Pericic, and senior Georgia Gray. Neira averaged 10.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game during her time at Presbyterian, while Pericic averaged 11.9 points and 6.7 assists per game across two seasons at Salem.
