Former Michigan Edge defender Breeon Ishmail faced challenges in securing playing time with the Wolverines. As a three-star recruit from Cincinnati (OH), he entered the maize and blue as the 1,110th-ranked recruit of the 2023 cycle. Ishmail primarily participated in special teams and saw limited action on defense. After two seasons, he decided to enter the transfer portal in search of a more significant opportunity.
On Monday, 247Sports’ Chris Hummer reported that Ishmail would be remaining in the Big Ten Conference and transferring to Purdue.

Ishmail did not see any playing time in his freshman year. However, this season, he participated in seven games and contributed to special teams, accumulating a total of 72 snaps during the 2024 campaign. After the Boilermakers dismissed Ryan Walters as head coach, they hired Barry Odom from UNLV to take the helm. Ishmail will have a new opportunity as Odom begins his tenure at Purdue.
Next season, Michigan is expected to have both Derrick Moore and TJ Guy returning to start at the Edge position. The Wolverines have maintained strong depth in this area for several years, and that trend is likely to continue in 2025.
