The Georgia Bulldogs have secured another transfer at the safety position, flipping former UAB defensive back Adrian Maddox from his commitment to Florida.
Maddox, who previously played at Alabama State and UAB, had been committed to the University of Florida but has now chosen the University of Georgia. He becomes the second safety addition this week for the Bulldogs, joining Zion Branch via the transfer portal.
Georgia’s safety room is in flux, with star Malaki Starks already declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft as a junior and senior Dan Jackson expected to follow suit. Maddox’s commitment is a crucial boost to the position group. He arrives in Athens with one year of eligibility remaining.
A native of Conyers, Georgia, Maddox began his college career at Alabama State after playing high school football at Heritage High. He quickly made a name for himself, becoming a finalist for the prestigious Jerry Rice Award, which honors the nation’s top FCS player. Following a standout season at UAB, Maddox now heads to Athens to play his final year of college football in the iconic Red and Black.
Transfer Portal Profile:
In Georgia’s history of portal additions, transfer targets typically fall into one of three categories:
Players with SEC Experience or Performances Against Georgia
Georgia often targets players who have proven themselves in the SEC or performed well against the Bulldogs. Examples include London Humphreys, Dominic Lovett, and even Eli Wolf from years past. Strong performances within the conference or against Georgia tend to draw the program’s attention when those players enter the portal.
Players with Previous Connections to Georgia
If Georgia was in contention during a player’s high school recruitment or shares a direct connection to their previous stops, the Bulldogs are likely to revisit the relationship. For instance, Lawrence Cager joined Georgia after a shared history with Todd Hartley during his time at Miami.
Players Who Can Immediately Contribute to the Starting Rotation
Georgia actively pursues players they believe can step into a starting role right away, regardless of prior connections. This approach brought players like Tre McKitty and Tykee Smith to Athens, based purely on their collegiate accomplishments.
