Two prominent college basketball programs made waves on Monday with developments in the transfer portal.

One of the players involved, a former five-star recruit, played only his freshman year with a highly respected program in college basketball.

The major headline was Ian Jackson’s decision, as he announced his commitment to join Rick Pitino and the St. John’s Red Storm.

After the news broke, Seth Trimble, who had initially entered the transfer portal but later decided to stay at Chapel Hill, shared a message for Jackson.

Jackson traveled from New York to North Carolina, so his move back to the Big Apple isn’t unexpected. He played high school basketball at Our Saviour Lutheran in the Bronx.

In his only season with the Tar Heels, Jackson averaged 11.9 points per game and logged 23.8 minutes of play.

In his last game, he managed only 10 minutes on the court and scored just one point during the 71-64 defeat to Ole Miss.

Jackson aims to contribute to the ongoing rebuilding of the St. John’s program. Under Pitino’s leadership, they reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season and ended with a strong record of 31-5, finishing at the top of the Big East Conference.

St. John’s has made significant moves in the transfer portal this offseason. Bryce Hopkins was among the first to join, transferring from Providence.

Additionally, shooting guard Joson Sanon from Arizona State and Oziyah Sellers from Stanford are expected to play in the backcourt for the Red Storm after their transfers to the program.
