Four North Carolina Tar Heels to receive postgraduate scholarships from the ACC

Every year, one of the most important ACC traditions is recognizing the success of its student-athletes, both in their academics and in their athletics.

As reported by theacc.com, “The ACC has selected postgraduate scholarship recipients annually since 1971. Over that time, the league has provided nearly $4.7 million to more than 1,000 ACC student-athletes.”

It’s wonderful that the ACC is dedicated to showing appreciation for and giving back to the student-athletes, who are the foundation the league is built on.

There are three annual awards offered: the 2025 Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Award, the 2025 Jim & Pat Thacker Scholarship Award and the 2025 ACC Excellence Award list (formerly called Honorary Scholarship nominees).

Four North Carolina student-athletes were honored among this prestigious group of 59. Each student-athlete represented a different sport. It’s encouraging seeing a handful of UNC sports recognized and rewarded.

Of the 59 total ACC student-athletes honored this year, 35 were selected for the 2025 Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Award. J.J. Jones of North Carolina Football and Riley Quartermain of North Carolina Women’s Golf were recipients of this award. The award honors ACC student-athletes who are working towards a graduate degree and grants $9,000 to each student-athlete’s continued education.

Jones is a Media and Journalism major, and Quartermain is an English and Comparative Literature major.

24 student-athletes were chosen for the 2025 ACC Excellence Award list (formerly called Honorary Scholarship nominees). Alyssa Ustby of North Carolina Women’s Basketball and Parker Wolfe of North Carolina Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field were recipients of this award. The award honors ACC student-athletes who intend on beginning their professional careers after graduation — either in their sport or in their degree of study.

Ustby is a Media and Journalism major, and Wolfe is an Exercise and Sport Science major.

Tar Heel Nation, let’s celebrate the academic and athletic accomplishments of these four UNC student-athletes.
