UNC & Hubert Davis Receive Another Huge Battle Lose For A High-Profile Player in Portal
UNC basketball couldn’t secure a commitment from Andrej Stojakovic in 2024, even after being named one of the three finalists by the then-outbound Stanford freshman. A year later, Hubert Davis’ Tar Heels found themselves in a similar situation, again as one of the two finalists for the now-outbound California sophomore’s final selection.
This time, the 6-foot-7, 205-pound Stojakovic chose Illinois over UNC and his initial college choice, Stanford. He revealed his final list on Sunday afternoon, just about 24 hours before announcing his decision on Monday.

The son of former three-time NBA All-Star Peja Stojakovic has officially committed to the Fighting Illini, a program that was widely considered the favorite in the closing moments of the recruitment process.
Last season, Andrej Stojakovic was the leading scorer for Cal, averaging 17.9 points per game, despite playing for a Golden Bears team that ended with a 14-19 overall record and 6-14 in ACC play. He also contributed 4.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 blocks as a full-time starter.
Stojakovic, a four-star transfer prospect, is currently ranked No. 35 overall and No. 6 among small forwards in this year’s transfer portal, according to 247Sports. Previously, he was a five-star recruit from Jesuit High School in California, where he was ranked No. 25 overall in the 247Sports 2023 Composite two years ago.
Under Hubert Davis, the UNC basketball recruiting team has secured five transfer players for his fifth roster as head coach, including four talented four-star athletes.
