Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald anticipated ahead of time that veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. could have to compete for the position he has held for the last 1.5 seasons in order to make the team’s final 53-man roster. According to Kelly, Wilson and 24-year-old back Chris Brooks will compete for the final position on the roster while rookie Jaylen Wright is predicted to earn a berth.
Kelly also pointed out an injury that gives room for both Wright and Brooks, which might be a wild card in the mix.
“Wright will probably be protected by his status as a fourth-round draft pick, so Wilson or Brooks will likely compete for the final spot on the 53-man roster if all backs stay healthy through the exhibition season—a highly unlikely scenario given the physical nature of the position.”
Not only has Kelly hinted that Wilson might not make the final roster, but other reporters have also predicted that he might fall victim to the team’s deep backfield.

Wilson had a big part in his rookie season, rushing for 392 yards and three scores in eight games after joining the Dolphins in a trade deadline transaction in 2022. With only 41 rushes for 188 yards in 10 games in 2023, Wilson regressed.
In order to save $3.67 million in cap space, Wilson agreed to a restructured contract in March. However, even with the new deal, Wilson’s status on the club may not be guaranteed this season. Wilson is the team’s “best player,” according to David Kenyon of Bleacher Report, and he is most likely to be left off the roster.
