After winning back-to-back national championships, Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies couldn’t pull off the three-peat, falling to the Florida Gators in the second round. Now, Hurley and company will have to prepare for the 2025-26 college basketball season. And, with the transfer portal open, UConn has already lost a few players.

On Tuesday, On3’s Joe Tipton reported that UConn junior guard Aidan Mahaney is entering the transfer portal, becoming the fourth Huskies player to do so. He joins center Youssouf Singare, freshman guard Ahmad Nowell and freshman forward Isaiah Abraham.

“NEWS: UConn guard Aidan Mahaney is entering the transfer portal, he told @On3sports,” Tipton wrote on X. “The 6-3 junior averaged 4.5 PPG this season. Began his career at St. Mary’s where he was All-WCC 1st team in his two seasons with the Gaels.”

Mahaney, the 6-foot-3, 185-pounder out of Lafayette, California, was a three-star prospect in the class of 2022 (247Sports). He initially committed to play for the Saint Mary’s Gaels, leading them to the NCAA Tournament in each of his two seasons.

After averaging 13.9 points and 2.6 assists in the 2023-24 college basketball season, Mahaney transferred to UConn for his junior year. He didn’t see much action in his lone season under Hurley, recording 4.5 points and 1.3 assists in 12.3 minutes per game.

Mahaney’s season-high with the Huskies came in the Jan. 5 win over Providence, scoring 15 points on 4-of-5 shooting. He also appeared in each of UConn’s tournament games this season, scoring seven points in 21 total minutes of action.
