UAB coach shares news on Brandon Buckhaulter’s scary injury and medical condition

UAB wide receiver Brandon Buckhaulter was taken off the field on a stretcher during the second quarter of the Blazers’ 37-27 loss to Arkansas in Week 3.

While catching a pass, Buckhaulter was face-masked by Razorbacks’ Xavian Sorey, which caused him to lose his helmet. Another player then tackled him, driving him head-first into the ground.

Despite the scary incident, Buckhaulter recovered well enough to return home with UAB. After the game, UAB coach Trent Dilfer provided an update, stating,

“He was moving. He was talking. He’s at the hospital now. They feel confident & positive. He’s going through some tests. Hopefully, he’ll join us on the plane.”

UAB later posted a positive update, confirming that Buckhaulter was released from the hospital.

for 103 yards and one touchdown. This season, he has recorded two receptions for 18 yards. UAB lost 37-27 to Arkansas on the road to fall to 1-2 this season.

UAB coach is satisfied with his team’s performance despite loss

Despite UAB losing to Arkansas, Trent Dilfer was still happy with his team’s performance. UAB went on the road to play an SEC team and Dilfer believes his team has improved every week, which he is happy about.

“We got better going into this week after being at a crossroads after losing that game the way we did,” Dilfer said, via KNWA.

“We made the focus on just everybody getting better as coaches and players. “We definitely got better this week. College kids can improve a lot in a week and so can coaches. We all did. They played better football this week. It wasn’t enough, but they definitely got better and all of our goals are still ahead of us since we haven’t started conference play yet.”

Dilfer is currently in his second season as the UAB coach, having guided the program to a 5-10 record, with a 3-5 mark in conference play. UAB will have a bye week before they host Navy on September 28.
