Kansas State’s win over rival Kansas in the Sunflower Showdown is proving beneficial for the Wildcats’ recruiting efforts.

Two K-State football recruits announced their commitments shortly after attending the game at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. One of these recruits is a highly sought-after player from the 2026 class.

Brandon Ford, A 6-foot defensive back from Crowley, Texas, made history by becoming K-State’s first commitment for 2026 on Monday. He holds a three-star rating and has received scholarship offers from prominent programs including Arizona, Arizona State, Houston, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, SMU, Texas Tech, and Washington State. The Wildcats made an early impression on him, solidifying his commitment during his visit to Manhattan over the weekend.

K-State also secured a commitment from a linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class. Darien Whitaker, a 6-foot-4 defensive athlete from Omaha, was convinced to join the Wildcats after his visit for the Sunflower Showdown. He previously committed to Northern Iowa and also had offers from South Florida and Washington State, earning a three-star rating from 247Sports.
