Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt is starting to gain a reputation for making questionable comments early in his career. This season, he has already made disparaging remarks about several teams he subsequently lost to. While he is undoubtedly a talented defender, the Bengals’ passing defense, including Taylor-Britt himself, has struggled.
Before the Bengals faced the Washington Commanders, Taylor-Britt commented on rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, stating that the team doesn’t ask him to do too much: “They don’t make him do a lot. They keep it really simple for him.
Nice college offense.” However, Daniels went on to lead his team to 38 points, defeating the Bengals in a shootout. He completed 21 of 33 passes for 254 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Additionally, he rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown. Taylor-Britt also allowed Terry McLaurin to catch a 55-yard pass during the game.

After the game, Cam Taylor-Britt admitted that the play involving Terry McLaurin was his responsibility, even though he expected some help. However, he stood by his earlier comments, claiming that the Commanders defeated the Bengals exactly as he predicted, again noting that Jayden Daniels executed well, just as he did in college.
Taylor-Britt also recognized that his remarks have landed him in hot water, both professionally and at home. He mentioned that he had already discussed this with head coach Zac Taylor, who advised him, “Just don’t speak on the other team.” While Taylor-Britt felt his comments weren’t directly disrespectful, he acknowledged that they could be seen as bulletin board material and assured that “it won’t happen again.”

The previous week, Cam Taylor-Britt made bold comments about the Kansas City Chiefs, specifically criticizing rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy by saying, “He can run straight… He can’t do too much else, so that’s about it.” While Worthy had one target and didn’t catch a pass against him, Rashee Rice ended up scoring a 44-yard touchdown against Taylor-Britt, demonstrating that he certainly can run straight!

A 2022 second-round pick, Cam Taylor-Britt had a standout season last year with four interceptions and 11 passes defensed. This season, according to Pro Football Focus, he has allowed four receptions on eight targets for 108 yards and one touchdown, along with two passes defensed.
So far, his knack for speaking out hasn’t benefited him, and the Bengals don’t need any distractions, especially with an 0-3 start after the defense made Jayden Daniels look like a star. The Bengals currently rank 26th in both passing yards and points allowed. Coach Zac Taylor would be wise to encourage Taylor-Britt to hold back his comments for now, as the team works to turn things around.
