TRADE DEADLINE: Predators claim former second-round pick off waivers from Kings
The Nashville Predators have secured forward Jaret Anderson-Dolan from the Kings via waivers, as reported by Chris Johnston of TSN and The Athletic.
Anderson-Dolan, aged 24, was drafted in the second round by the Kings in 2017. Recently placed on waivers by Los Angeles to open up roster flexibility before the trade deadline, the Canadian forward has accumulated only four points in 30 games this season, with an average ice time of 10 minutes and 57 seconds per game.
Initially, he is expected to provide additional forward depth for Nashville and will seek opportunities to contribute in upcoming games as the Predators strive to clinch the final playoff position in the Western Conference. He will compete for playing time with newcomers like Anthony Beauvillier, as well as depth players such as Denis Gurianov and Mark Jankowski, as General Manager Barry Trotz works on revamping the team’s second, third, and fourth lines. The team also sent Yakov Trenin to the Avalanche on Thursday, leading to further internal roster changes.
Although the Calgary native demonstrated promising progress in the minor leagues, tallying 47 points in 54 games for AHL Ontario in 2021-22, he has not been able to consistently secure a top-nine role in the NHL. Despite the Kings briefly allowing him to hit free agency last summer by not extending a qualifying offer, they ultimately brought him back on a one-year contract worth $775,000. If Nashville decides to extend a qualifying offer, they will retain his signing rights this summer, as he is a pending restricted free agent with arbitration rights.
Following today’s transactions, the Predators have a full roster of 23 players and hold $33.9 million in available cap space leading up to tomorrow’s deadline.
