Toledo Ranks 10th in Nation with 3.724 Team GPA in 2023-24

Toledo Women’s Basketball Team Achieves Academic Excellence.

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women’s basketball team is making headlines not just for their performance on the court but also for their impressive academic achievements. With a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.724, the Rockets ranked 10th nationally among Division I programs, as reported by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Honor Roll.

This remarkable GPA is the highest in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) for the past year and marks the third consecutive academic year that Toledo has maintained a team GPA of 3.5 or higher. The Rockets recorded a GPA of 3.556 in the 2022-23 academic year and 3.519 in 2021-22, showcasing their consistent commitment to academic excellence.

During the spring semester, the team achieved a GPA of 3.650, which included six players being named to the Dean’s List and another six making the President’s List. This achievement contributes to an impressive streak of 27 consecutive semesters where the team has maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

In addition to their academic success, four players—Jessica Cook, Nan Garcia, Sammi Mikonowicz, and Sophia Wiard—were recognized as College Sports Communicators Academic All-District. Furthermore, seven Rockets earned Academic All-MAC honors, highlighting the team’s dedication to both their studies and athletics.

On the court, the Rockets continued to excel during the 2023-24 season, finishing with an impressive record of 28-6 and a 17-1 mark in the MAC. They secured their third consecutive regular-season MAC title and made it to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament (WBIT), further solidifying their status as a competitive program.

The Toledo women’s basketball team’s combination of academic achievement and athletic success reflects their commitment to excellence both in the classroom and on the court. As they continue to build on their successes, the Rockets are proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of collegiate athletics.
