Mason Gillis, the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year, has transferred to Duke after his crucial role in Purdue’s run to the national title game. Gillis announced his decision on Instagram on Monday. This addition bolsters Duke’s roster, which experienced an exodus of seven players entering the transfer portal following the NCAA Tournament.
The 6-foot-6 forward, who began his career as a starter, embraced a bench role for Matt Painter in all 39 games in the 2023-24 season. Despite coming off the bench, Gillis made a significant impact, shooting 46.8 percent from beyond the 3-point line and averaging 6.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
With 132 career games at Purdue, Gillis is classified as a graduate student with one year of eligibility remaining. His arrival at Duke provides head coach Jon Scheyer with a valuable and experienced addition to the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
