Three-star QB commits to Oklahoma State, flips from App State

Jett Niu will continue his college football career in the Big 12. The three-star quarterback from Lehi, Utah, has changed his commitment from Appalachian State to Oklahoma State, providing a significant boost to the Cowboys’ recruiting efforts following their exciting double-overtime win against Arkansas.

Jett Niu’s Thoughts on Oklahoma State

Niu expressed his enthusiasm for Oklahoma State, stating, “Everything about Oklahoma State excites me. The atmosphere, the fans, the coaches, and the whole culture stood out to me. I’m really looking forward to growing with coach Tim Rattay, coach Kasey Dunn, and coach Mike Gundy. I’m super excited for the opportunity they’ve given me.”

He also highlighted his memorable time with coach Rattay, praising his coaching style and experience, saying, “He’s an outstanding coach; he has his principles and goes by those. The atmosphere was unbelievable — who wouldn’t want to play in front of those fans?”

Recruitment Process

Niu had been committed to App State since May but made a pivotal official visit to Stillwater last weekend. Although he had initially planned to visit in late April, that trip was canceled after Oklahoma State successfully recruited Adam Schobel, who had previously committed to Baylor. Witnessing the Cowboys’ thrilling victory over Arkansas left a lasting impression on Niu and his younger brother Bryton, who is a three-star tight end in the 2026 class and received an offer during the visit. Oklahoma State was the first Power Conference team to offer Niu, which played a crucial role in his decision.

Niu’s Ranking

Fit with Oklahoma State

Niu plans to graduate in December and join the team in January. He noted that the offensive system at Oklahoma State will challenge him, stating, “In their offense, you have to be super smart, so it’s going to be good to really push myself and challenge myself. I love that they throw the ball and will get the best out of me.”

Scouting Report

Greg Biggins, a national scouting analyst for 247Sports, praised Niu’s performance, noting, “Niu had a breakout junior season, throwing for 2,812 yards and 31 touchdowns. He shows good pocket presence and can extend plays, looking comfortable throwing both inside and outside the pocket. He has a nice touch for layering the ball between defenders and can run when pressured.”
