‘This is so sad’: UAB hall of famer sounds off on former program

UAB legend Roddy White took to social media on Saturday to voice his frustration about his alma mater.

White’s post on X, formerly known as Twitter, came in the middle of the Blazers’ game against Army that saw UAB in a 34-3 deficit by halftime.

“It’s sad watching my blazers play they literally don’t look interested in playing football,” he wrote. “This is so sad.”

UAB suffered a loss to Army with a score of 44-10, bringing their record to 1-5, the worst start for the Blazers since 2012.

White, considered the best player in UAB’s history, played for the program from 2001-2004 and was inducted into the UAB Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.

In his final season, he set multiple school records with 71 receptions (third), 1,452 yards (second), and 14 touchdowns (first).

Over his career at UAB, White ranks second in receiving yards (3,112), 26 in receiving touchdowns, third in career receptions (163), and fourth in yards per reception (19.09).

After a record-setting career with the Blazers, White was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons with the 27th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. He played 11 seasons with the team, earning four Pro Bowl selections and being inducted into the Atlanta Falcons Ring of Honor in 2019.

UAB (1-5, 0-3 American Athletic Conference) will face South Florida next Saturday, with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
