Brebbia, 34, had a challenging season with the White Sox in 2024, finishing with a record of 0-6, reflecting the struggles of the entire organization. He posted a 6.29 ERA over 54 games in Chicago before finishing the season in Atlanta, where he made five appearances. Throughout the season, he struck out 67 batters in 55.1 innings, demonstrating he has the type of swing-and-miss capability that teams seek for their bullpen.
By signing with the Tigers, he will join a team that reached the playoffs last season. Detroit rallied late in the season to secure a postseason spot, defeating the Houston Astros in the wild card round before losing to the Cleveland Guardians in the ALDS. The Tigers have built on that success this offseason, adding Brebbia, along with Jack Flaherty and Glebyer Torres.
However, they did miss out on free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman, who signed a three-year deal with the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night.
As Detroit prepares for spring training, their main concerns revolve around filling the fourth and fifth spots in the starting rotation, especially with the news that Alex Cobb is likely to miss Opening Day. Additionally, they will be counting on some young infielders to step up in the absence of Bregman.
