“The White Sox have acquired another talented left-handed pitcher and have designated right-handed pitcher Steven Wilson for assignment.”
The White Sox announced on Friday that they have acquired left-handed pitcher Brandon Eisert from the Rays via waivers. To create space on the 40-man roster, right-handed reliever Steven Wilson has been designated for assignment.
The Chicago White Sox have claimed left-handed pitcher Brandon Eisert off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Eisert, 27, made his major-league debut with the Blue Jays in 2024, recording a 4.05 ERA over 6.2 innings. He earned this opportunity after spending three consecutive seasons with the team’s Triple-A affiliate, where he achieved a more impressive 3.83 ERA across 183.1 innings, striking out 28.6% of hitters while maintaining a 7.9% walk rate and respectable ground-ball rates.
Originally selected by the Blue Jays in the 18th round of the 2018 draft, Eisert has experienced a lot of movement recently. He was designated for assignment (DFA) by Toronto on January 20 and traded to Tampa Bay three days later for cash. Shortly after, the Rays DFA’d him to facilitate this waiver claim.
As a result, Wilson is the odd man out for the White Sox. The 30-year-old reliever, who was part of the Dylan Cease trade with the Padres, struggled to replicate his previous success in San Diego due to several injuries. He ended up with a 5.71 ERA, decreased fastball velocity, and career-low strikeout and walk rates.
Despite these issues, the White Sox offered Wilson a $ 950,000 salary for the upcoming season, hoping he can rebound. The team is now waiting to see if he clears waivers unclaimed, in which case they plan to keep him in Triple-A until he is needed, especially since it appears likely that he would accept an outright assignment to maintain his current contract.
