The Saints’ season just got harder after the latest devastating Rashid Shaheed update

The latest development for Rashid Shaheed is bad news for the New Orleans Saints.

On Wednesday, the New Orleans Saints announced that wide receiver Rashid Shaheed would need meniscus surgery. However, the team did not provide a timeline for his recovery, as the severity of the injury would only be determined once the procedure was performed.

Now, on Thursday, Shaheed has had the surgery, and the Saints have placed him on Injured Reserve (IR). While some players on IR can return after four games, Shaheed’s season is officially over, and he will concentrate on his multi-month recovery.

After it was announced he would require surgery, reports indicated that the procedure could go one of two ways: a meniscus trim, which would sideline him for a few weeks, or a full meniscus repair, which would keep him out for the rest of the season.

During his surgery on Thursday, doctors chose to perform a full repair, and now Shaheed’s season is finished.

In just six games, Shaheed was having the best season of his career, recording 20 receptions for 349 yards and three touchdowns. His receiving yards and touchdowns led the team, and he was on track for an outstanding season.

Additionally, he was an elite return specialist, with nine punt returns for 143 yards and one touchdown, leading the league in both yards per return and touchdowns. He also had six kick returns for 171 yards.

Now, he will focus on his recovery while the Saints try to salvage their season without him.

Entering Week 7, New Orleans is 2-4, and Shaheed is the latest key player to suffer a significant injury. The team has already been without players like Derek Carr, Chris Olave, Taysom Hill, Erik McCoy, Cesar Ruiz, and Pete Werner, among others.

New Orleans has shown it can be a strong team when healthy, but with injuries mounting, they will need other players to rise to the occasion if they want to remain competitive.
