The MSU & Coach Thomas Michael Izzo Share’s Some Exciting Update Following Another Huge Commitment Of Key Player
The Michigan State Spartans significantly raised their potential for next season by signing transfer Jalyn Brown, a junior guard from Arizona State, who announced her move on social media on Monday. Brown has one year of eligibility left as she heads to East Lansing.
Arizona State struggled last season, finishing with a record of 10-22 overall and 3-15 in the Big 12, prompting expectations for a talent like Brown to seek a new opportunity.
During her junior year, Brown was the leading scorer for the Sun Devils, averaging a career-high 18.0 points on 41% shooting, along with 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. She started 27 out of 29 games and played an average of 32.7 minutes. MSU anticipates she will play a similar role at their program.
After limited playing time in her freshman year at Louisville, where she averaged less than 5 minutes in just seven games, Brown has excelled in her two seasons at Arizona State, consistently scoring over 17 points per game. She has also improved her free throw shooting to 81.3% and hit 31.8% from three-point range last season.
Brown’s game is heavily focused on driving to the basket. She possesses a quick first step and agility to navigate past defenders and finish at the rim. Though she can shoot from long range, her strength lies in her ability to attack and score close to the basket.
With the departure of senior guard Julia Ayrault, who is exploring opportunities in the WNBA after going undrafted, the Spartans were in search of a dynamic scorer who can influence games. Brown is expected to fill that role, potentially starting at point guard or shooting guard as the Spartans continue to develop their program. Last season, the Spartans were nationally ranked for much of the year and made it to the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 for the first time since 2019..

With a field-goal percentage of 44.3%, which was around average for the Big Ten, the addition of Brown’s scoring ability could significantly improve those numbers, potentially leading to more victories and a deeper run in both the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments
