Hailing from Cleveland, Tennessee, Boo Carter was a key addition for the Tennessee Volunteers in the 2024 signing class, ranking within the top 200 on the recruiting consensus rankings. While Jordan Ross was the highest-rated defensive recruit they landed, Carter’s impact could be even greater.
Jordan Ross may see some playing time this fall, but he faces stiff competition with established players like James Pearce, Joshua Josephs, and Caleb Herring ahead of him. In contrast, Boo Carter might step into a starting position in Week 1 of the 2024 season due to Jourdan Thomas’s season-ending injury.
After the Vols’ first scrimmage, Heupel praised Carter, stating, “It gives all the guys opportunities. Boo has performed exceptionally well. The last couple of days leading into the scrimmage have been his strongest, as he’s adapted to our defensive framework and made plays. He’s a young talent who is continually improving, and he’s a dynamic playmaker.”
