The Florida State Seminoles & Mike Norvell Dealt With Another Challenging News report
The 2024 college football season saw a downturn in the performance of several teams that had previously shown great potential. Some of these teams had been competitive over the years, while others had experienced a strong 2023 season.
These teams were striving for a spot in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. However, due to challenges during the season, they stumbled and are now facing a crucial 2025 season ahead.
The Florida State Seminoles are a prime example of this trend. After finishing with records of 10-3 in 2022 and 13-1 in 2023, the Seminoles seemed to be on the rise. They entered the 2024 season ranked No. 10 in the nation, but their season quickly took a turn for the worse.

The Florida State Seminoles had a disappointing 2024 season, wrapping up with a record of 2-10, their worst showing since 1974 when they went 1-10. They faced challenges right from the start, losing their first three games. Although they secured a victory against the California Golden Bears, winning 14-9, they did not win against any other FBS team for the rest of the season.
On “The Paul Finebaum Show,” SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum was asked about the potential for Florida State to bounce back in 2025.
“I don’t believe it,” Finebaum responded. “They went out and effectively shopped for players like it was at Walmart, hoping they can fit into their system. To me, that program seems to be on a downward trajectory.”
Supporting Finebaum’s statement, the Seminoles did have a notable transfer portal class, ranking No. 7 nationally according to 247Sports. They brought in 16 prospects, with former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos standing out. In just eight games, he threw for 1,366 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions, while also rushing for 194 yards and one touchdown.
After finishing at No. 132 out of 133 teams in total offense, Florida State opted to replace offensive coordinator Alex Atkins with former UCF Knights head coach Gus Malzahn.
The Seminoles are set to kick off their season against the Alabama Crimson Tide on August 30.
