A former Cy Young Award winner is still available in free agency, and several teams reached out to him this week.
Free agent pitcher Max Scherzer held a showcase for interested teams earlier this week, as reported by Pat Ragazzo from SI. Teams such as the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Phillies, Braves, Cubs, and Red Sox were present, and Ragazzo noted that the teams left with a favorable impression of his performance.

The 40-year-old Scherzer faces questions regarding his health and performance capability. Last season with the Texas Rangers, he pitched only 43.1 innings and recorded a 3.95 ERA.
Injuries to his back, shoulder, and hamstring limited his participation for much of the season and diminished his value during a critical contract year, which is why he remains without a contract as January comes to a close. Health issues have plagued Scherzer for the past three seasons, with 2021 being the last year he made at least 30 starts. Despite these challenges, Scherzer’s potential is evident, and he believes he has overcome his injury struggles.
If a team signs him and manages to keep him healthy for the 2025 season, they could land a valuable player at a relatively low cost, and it seems that many teams are at least contemplating this possibility.
